Samara Space Museum
During the Soviet years, Samara was known as Kuybyshev, a closed city where much work was done for the space program. In 1991 the city regained is old name and became an open city. Today, a small space museum commemorates Russia's contribution to space exploration, including the giant Vostok rocket and, inside the museum, Yury Gagarin's space capsule.
